BKDesign is a full featured website design and development business. We endeavor to be a long term resource center for all your website requirements and provide the best available systems.

I look at foundations. Your hosting, your code (web standards), and then your content management system are foundational to your objectives on a long term basis. Once these basics are established, then look at adding the best available options whether that be mapping, podcasting, video, ajax or other. The goal of BKDesign is to make these options simple and easy to use with the best presentation, and be user and search engine friendly.

Then make your site accessible, not only to all with any type of disability, but also to any device, now and for the future. Making your site not only printable and audio enabled, but also accessible to cell phones, tv, screen readers and any device that accesses the internet.

I work full time as a programmer and developer using the best programs for clients to manage their own content. My business is creating websites for clients and have done so for a lot of years now.  I’m an internet fanatic, (since I discovered it in 1995), and created my first website 13 years ago.

At that time a very wise engineer told me that if I wanted to learn html and web design, to do everything in notepad or a simple text editor manually. This was the best advice I ever received because I learned to code from the ground up by hand, rather than being limited to an html editor. I remember many late nights spent trying to get complex tables to work among other issues!

So now, even though I have gone on to Web Standards and CSS based design, that was foundational to good practices and gave me a deep grasp of layout and coding.

I started by taking the MCSE course 13 years ago. (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer). I then went on to specialize in the internet and website development in general. I spend all my time online, either working on clients sites or programming in php, ajax, xhtml, and XML and keeping my skills up to date. I do extensive work with mySQL databases, php, and xml along with Content Management Systems such as Movable Type and ExpressionEngine.

ExpressionEngine has become the Content Management System of choice, not only for myself here at BKDesign, but for many large corporations.
One can look at it as an interface to a database, and it has unlimited potential to manage very large, even multiple sites, and intranets.

I have been working very extensively with video, podcasting in general, javascript, ajax, xml, and Google mapping, and have developed a surprisingly easy system to integrate these technologies into websites. From uploading and converting video to high end store locators, ExpressionEngine handles it with ease, simplicity, speed and organization.

Several years ago I strongly felt that video and xml would become of extreme importance in the future, (using Web Standards), so I dedicated several years of my time to learning these new technologies. This became much like attending university full time and working, an enormous time drain often entailing well over 80 hours/week.
This prediction has thankfully became true, and is built on Web Standards and xml.

For my clients, I build standards based websites and integrate desired features into the site using the best practices known. My motto is Simplicity by Design. This does not mean a lack of features in any way, but the best methods of achieving an objective using the simplest methods.
