Publishing Your Website

ExpressionEngine is by far the best and most easily configured website content publishing and editing system on the market. The keyword here is configurable

Many times I hear in reference to using publishing systems, “I don’t want a blog, I want a business website.” While business blogging has proven itself time and again,  ExpressionEngine has the capabilities to power large corporate websites, and does so. I have selected the publishing platform which has the capability to do anything with a website and have unlimited options while being cost effective.

You will gain an edge timewise and monetarily when you make your site editable and done to Web Standards. We do nothing else.

Content Management Systems

BKDesign recommends Expression Engine to not only make managing your website content simple and easy, but also to be able to make changes and additions as easy as possible without having to call in a programmer for every little change.

I am a reseller and developer of expression engine. It uses dynamic publishing from the database, is extremely configurable, and also has an open and easy to edit template system.
It additionally comes with a wiki, a photo gallery, and has a first class forum that can be easily added.

Expression Engine has an open template system making configuration and customizations a simple matter, and a very simple and easy photo and file uploading function which I have found to be the best there is. It bridges the gap between blog software and full CMS and can easily be configured to manage your entire site no matter how large or complex.

BKDesign recommends Expression Engine as best overall CMS.

The Best CMS?
The key is to have a publishing system that has:

  1. Templates that aren’t scattered all over, have clean and easily edited code, and not tied into the core programming. The ideal with EE is that anything can be put into a newly created template and it publishes it to your site.
    • Most systems on the market have templates inside templates in many different directories, in propriatory code, and wrapped around the core making changes costly and time consuming.
  2. Template code is simple and accessible for changes.
  3. Template system that allows you to make new blank templates, put anything in them, and they will publish that page.

Movable Type:
Publishes static files to the web server and uses templates. As it comes is overly bloated and complex but can be simplified.
MT has come out with version 4.  There is also an open source version now which definitely has possibilities, but it is rather bloated code wise and needs work.

Because Movable Type is typically used for blogging many think that it is only used for blogs. It can be used for a business website and often is. It also has the potential to not only make your entire website, or any part of it, editable, but also any file on your webserver.. Add to that the ability to publish from a template any kind of file, php, html, txt etc and it comes in handy.

These two platforms are the best site management tools available and are definitely worth looking into. We highly recommend using Expression Engine.
