Starting With Expression Engine

To start with ExpressionEngine you have three choices.

A basic core version which is free.
A personal version with everything which is $99.95
The commercial version which is $249.95.

Core Version

The EE core is a fully functional version with the exception of not having some of the Modules available. They can be compared on the EE pricing page. No forum, wiki, pages, multiple members and no gallery are the main ones.

Installation

$50.00 for any version. As BKDesign is a reseller, purchasing a license or 1 year hosting through us allows for a discount of up to $50.00 for installing.
Dedicated servers and hosting get a larger discount, contact us for details.

Design Costs

Every site design is different and entails completely different pricing. Contact us for an estimate. For details on publishing, uploading and resizing images, custom fields in entries and other site functions see our tutorials section in the menu. It can be mentioned that EE is the easiest platform to design for and has an accessible template system. A template works like an html page, but dynamic. Any design on the planet can be incorporated into EE.

BKDesign also offers consulting by the hour to help get you up to speed which is often the best option to save time. For our clients we also have hundreds of predone code samples for anything required, this way one doesn’t reinvent the wheel every time.

The Templates

Not many are thrilled with the templates that come with EE by default. As it is a CMS it would not be possible to supply a design that would make everyone happy as we are all different and all sites are as well. So there is a very basic set included.

So most look for a replacement right off, but where to find that if one isn’t hiring a developer?
Some places have CSS Standards based templates that are free, such as openwebdesign.org where one can browse and download something that is close to what is wanted.

I have found browsing designs very frustrating, much like looking at wallpaper books, so I developed a basic template set that is easy to customize and simple.
